This sermon series through Kings and Chronicles explores the tension between God’s complete sovereignty and humanity’s persistent unfaithfulness. From the earliest pages of Scripture to the exile of Israel, God’s people repeatedly turn from Him, placing their hope in flawed leaders and worthless idols. Written to a nation in captivity, these books reveal not a powerless God, but a faithful and patient one God, who is just in His judgment and steadfast in His love. As we journey through the rise and fall of Israel’s kings, we are reminded that human wisdom and leadership can never lead us down the path God intends. In addition to that, our hearts today are not so different from those of ancient Israel. This series calls us to examine our own loyalties, and to trust the God who remains in control, and who offers hope even in the midst of failure.
